How can I prepare the coat before washing?

Brush away loose hair, skin, knots, tangles and debris from your pet before washing. This will help wash effectively, rinse and soften your pets coat during and after the bath.

How do I best dry and groom my pet?

After bathing, use a soft, dry towel to rub down your pet’s coat until he or she is damp, paying particular attention to the eyes and ears.

You can let your dog air dry in a secure area (to prevent him or her running outside and rolling around in the dirt) or use a hair dryer on low warm heat to assist drying time. Comb through your pet’s coat at this time to remove any knots, continuing until dry and tangle free.

How can I care for my pet’s coat in-between washes?

Using Oakwood’s specially formulated Pet Odour Eliminator Cologne will keep your pet smelling fresh and clean.

It can also be used on pet bedding, fabric furniture and car interiors and all other areas your pet may roam.

How do I care for a long, matted or tangled dog coat?

If your dog’s coat is long and prone to matting or tangling, we recommend the use of our Aloe Vera Coat Conditioner and Anti Tangle Coat Spray.

Using our Oakwood Aloe Vera Coat Conditioner and Anti Tangle Coat Spray will help remove any knots, tangles or matted areas on the coat, leaving behind a soft and shiny coat.

What is a good way to get rid of pet smells?

Sometimes our pets are not visibly dirty but smelly.

Our Pet Odour Eliminator and Cologne is perfect when it’s not quite bath time, to keep your pet smelling fresh and clean. A light spray to the coat, pet bedding, lounges and carpets will emit a clean and mild fragrance that freshens and eliminates stubborn odours.

How do I remove knots and tangles?

Oakwood Anti Tangle Spray helps keep those long and fluffy coats free of matted fur and knots, while maintaining a healthy shine.

Regular brushing and grooming will also keep natural oils evenly distributed throughout the coat and helps to remove loose hair, dead skin and unwanted parasites.

How do I get rid of cat urine smells?

To combat cat and also dog urine odours, you need an enzyme cleaner to break down the urine crystals. While a vinegar and water solution is often recommended, it actually does not have the ability to break down urine crystals and eliminate the odour. Similarly, cleaners with ammonia are not suitable and may even encourage your cat to spray more as cat urine contains high levels of ammonia.

Speak to your pet shop about an enzyme cleaner to break down the urine crystals. You can then use our Oakwood pet odour eliminator which contains ‘monomer esters’, which is an active ingredient that does eliminate a wide range of pet odours on pet coats, bedding, carpets, etc. to keep your home smelling fresh and clean.

We also recommend you have a chat to your vet to find a solution to address the spraying problem so wet carpets are a thing of the past.

How can I nourish my dog’s coat?

Sometimes shampoo dries out your pet’s coat and using a pH balanced shampoo range like Oakwood is really important. Similar to human hair, it’s always a great idea to condition your pets coat after shampooing. This will moisturise your dog’s coat, replacing needed moisture where the natural oils may have been stripped away due to shampooing.

The Oakwood Aloe Vera Coat Conditioner will moisturise the coat after a wash and will eliminate any matted knots and tangles present after shampooing. You can order it directly from our online store here

What is the best way to remove pet hair from my furniture?

We all love snuggling with our pets on the couch, especially when the weather is cold and wet!

But if your pet’s hair is getting too much on the couch, armchair or any other soft furnishing, there is an easy way to remove the pet hair.
Simply dampen a rubber glove a little, pat it over the furniture and the pet hair sticks to the glove. The damp rubber material is like a magnet to hair!
